According to legend, vikings sailors used iolite as a light polarizer to navigate when the sun was hidden by clouds. Iolite is a beautiful alternative to a tanzanite or sapphire, the gemstone is even sometimes referred to as a water sapphire. Iolite symbolizes the journey, guidance, exploration, intuition, motivation, balance, and creativity.
Iolite ranges in shades and saturations of color from violet to bluish-violet to blue.
